Andre-Pierre Gignac: Olympique De Marseille Scored As Many As Possible Against Zilina

Hat-trick hero Andre-Pierre Gignac explained to Canal+ after Olympique de Marseille’s 7-0 victory over Zilina that les Phoceens had gone to Slovakia to be ruthless in front of goal.

From the moment ‘Dede’ deflected Benoit Cheyrou’s free-kick into the net, a steady flow of goals came. Gignac made it two soon after opening his account, and he completed his treble by grabbing OM’s sixth with a stooping second half header.

“We started the match well,” the former Toulouse hitman explained after the game. “We respected the Zilina team but we scored as many goals as possible. It's good for the goal difference because there are still two matches and that's important.”

Marseille go to Spartak Moscow in three weeks for what is likely to be a defining fixture of the campaign, and it is a tie Gignac is already looking forward to. “We will go to Moscow with the desire to take the three points and the motivation to get through this round, because it is very important for OM and the supporters,” he considered before reflecting upon his own progress since his transfer this summer.

“I think that anyone who knows football knows that playing for Olympique Marseille is always difficult. I’m continuing my adaption.”

Gignac’s three goals in Slovakia were the first he has managed for the club in Europe. His only previous effort came against Saint-Etienne.
