Bewitched Kristina Keneally spells out her new role




IF Barry O'Farrell turns into a toad today we've got a fair idea who might be responsible.

Tipping a pointy hat to Halloween tradition, Premier Kristina Keneally took a spell from her political woes for fun with her family.

Mrs Keneally, who hails from the Halloween-mad Mid-West of the US, donned a witch's hat and cape, while her husband Ben looked like a cross between The Cat In The Hat and a blood-spattered mad scientist.

And perhaps in an effort to prove there are no skeletons in her closet, a skull was fixed to the front fence along with fake cobwebs as her home was turned into a haunted house.

Handing out generous handfuls of lollies to children trick-or-treating in her neighbourhood, could this be the first sign she will buckle under the pressure reported last week to make October 31 a

Sadly, no.

"That's a scary thought," she said after Saturday's festivities. "Halloween is a bit of fun, but there's no reason to make it a public holiday. Even little witches and ghosts need to go to school."

Ms Keneally said she and her neighbours had started an annual trick-or-treat get together for kids in her street.

"Families who want to participate put a sign on their front gate," she said. "Everyone meets down at the park and it's a great family afternoon. We played spooky music and dressed up. The kids ... loved it
