Roberto Soldado Preparing For Valencia's 'Very Important' La Liga Clash With Sevilla

Valencia striker Roberto Soldado is of the opinion that Monday night’s La Liga’s match versus Sevilla could be pivotal to their season’s progress.

The former Real Madrid striker enjoyed his best performance for Los Che since his summer switch from Getafe in netting a clinical double to help defeat Rangers in the Champions League and put Unai Emery’s side in pole position for qualification.

In an interview with Marca, however, the attacker turned his attention back to league duties, and believes the match against Sevilla is one of the most vital matches in the season so far.

He remarked: “It is a very important game if we are to continue being positioned at the top of the league. Sevilla are a direct rival to us in the table, and so we have to go out and attack them, because Valencia have to set the level just below the big teams.

“We used to start games well and hold onto the result until the end of the season, but recently the opposite has happened. The team is aware of the level it has to produce.”

Soldado partnered Aritz Aduriz from the start in the win over the Scottish champions that got Valencia’s season back on track, but he does not feel that necessarily means that 4-4-2 is always the correct formation for the team.

He added: “It depends on the opponents against whom you play. Rangers are a team who plays with a lot of people back, and so the more people we had in the area, the better for us. We knew more attackers would give us more shots on goal.

“The coaches approach was good and hopefully this will continue in the next match.”
